For millions of Australians, a simple outing begins with an exhausting question: will I actually be able to get in, get around and be safe?
Today, the answer is scattered across out-of-date websites and self-reported listings that are often well-intentioned but not accurate.
Australia’s Access Map fixes this. It sets one consistent standard for capturing and sharing accessibility information — verified and trusted — so people can plan with confidence.
Once collected, this information can be pushed across multiple channels, helping Australians find it wherever they already look: Google Maps, Booking.com, local event pages and beyond.
This is how accessibility information becomes part of daily life. Not hidden away on individual websites, but embedded across Australia's digital landscape and everyday decision-making. A more accessible Australia starts with information people can trust.

Three organisations, one shared mission
Who’s leading the charge?
Three leading organisations have come together to propose Australia’s Access Map, combining technology, national reach and lived experience to deliver an initiative ready to create lasting change at scale. This initiative has been put forward for funding through the Australian government's Disability Peer Support and Connections Program 2026 – 2027, removing the cost of participation for organisations that join. Backed by a national consortium of councils, businesses and community organisations, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build the trusted accessibility infrastructure Australians want today and will rely on into the future.

Access Maps provides the technology powering this project. Our platform enables councils, businesses and community organisations to capture, verify and publish accessibility information to a single national standard, ensuring consistency, accuracy and trust across every data point.
The technology
Once captured, that information doesn’t sit in isolation. It ‘s distributed across the digital ecosystem where people already search and plan their journeys, including government websites, mobile apps such as the App Store and Google Play, and the wider reach of partner platforms and networks. This ensures accessibility information is not only collected once, but shared widely, consistently and in the moments it matters most.

Belgravia Leisure is a recognised leader in accessibility and inclusion across recreation and leisure centres. Through their wider council networks, they will capture accessibility data for public venues across the country, including libraries, community centres, parks, reserves, beaches and pools. This extends to capturing and updating trusted information on critical infrastructure such as accessible parking, accessible restrooms and public transport.
The reach into community
Use and re-use tons of responsive sections too a main create the perfect layout. Sections are firmly of organised into layers.

Make accessibility the standard, not the exception.
Make accessibility the standard, not the exception.
4.4 million Australians live with a disability and a further 2.65 million provide unpaid care. Together, they represent a significant part of our communities — all of whom deserve certainty about what to expect before they leave home.

When reliable accessibility information is easy to find and use, it does more than support planning. It enables participation, strengthens independence and helps people feel confident returning to the places that welcome them.

Every venue is captured against a single verified national standard. Staff can respond to questions with confidence, and visitors can plan with clarity about what to expect before they arrive. No uncertainty. No outdated listings. From there, the data becomes more than a record. It becomes a decision-making tool. Live dashboards and reporting tools show how venues compare, where gaps exist and where improvements will offer the greatest value.
The impact? Transforming your accessibility metrics from a point-in-time snapshot to an ongoing source of insight. For councils and organisations, this turns accessibility into action. It informs staff training, guides infrastructure upgrades and shape long-term planning. What starts as a single audit becomes an evidence baseline for better accessibility, year after year.

“As a PA, one of the hardest parts of my job is trying to plan ahead without knowing what’s actually accessible. We waste so much time calling places, checking reviews, or turning up only to find it doesn’t work. Access Maps gives me the confidence to support my boss properly in a quick, effective way. I can know exactly what to expect and make smarter, safer choices.”

Juliana Carvalho

“Planning is everything when you have an impairment and need to go somewhere new. Is there accessible parking? Are the bathrooms usable? These questions take time—and can cause a lot of stress. Access Maps takes all that worry away. Having clear accessibility information upfront is absolute gold.”

Teina Boyd
Accessibility Advisor, Tauranga City Council
"I've seen firsthand how access maps empower our community. It's a simple but powerful tool that helps everyone make informed choices and promote opportunity. They're a key part of building a more inclusive and equitable Tauranga."

Amy Joyce

"Since joining Access Maps, our visitors can check our accessibility information in advance which takes a lot of pressure off. We get fewer calls asking detailed questions about access needs we are not always familiar with and can direct people to the page for accurate answers. It has also helped bring in more visitors during off-peak times which has been great to see."

“As a C5 tetraplegic and a busy parent, I don’t have the time or energy for uncertainty when planning outings. Access maps take away the guesswork by showing me exactly where I can park, which routes are accessible, and whether facilities like toilets are usable for me. It means I can focus on spending quality time with my child instead of navigating avoidable barriers. Having that information upfront is not just helpful. It’s essential.”

Nicky Louis

"Access Maps is a game changer. It's easy to use, gives granular details and should be the first stop for anyone working in the disability space. It makes finding reliable accessibility information so much easier."

Genevieve Whitson
General Manager, Mainstreet Tauranga
"Access Maps have been fantastic to work with – friendly, supportive and genuinely committed to making a difference. They guided us through setting up our Access Profile and even helped city centre businesses get on board and feature on the local council map. The platform is giving our businesses more confidence when it comes to welcoming visitors with access needs and helping people plan their visits with ease. It is opening doors to a wider community who are often overlooked or underserved. Everyone should be able to enjoy what our city centre has to offer, and Access Maps is helping make that happen."
